Future In Our Hands The Gambia (FIOHTG) is a non-governmental organisation NGO), that has been working with rights-based rural development through education and capacity building in The Gambia for more than 40 years.
The aim of the organisation is to bring education closer to the rural people and strengthen their capacity to fight poverty.
FIOHTG policy and development work are based on the UN Universal Declaration on Human Rights, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), The Gambian Women Act 2010, the Gambia Education Policy etc. To carry out the objective FIOHTG is currently working within three development areas;
Partners and networking is important to strengthen the development work. FIOH works closely with governmental institutions, international organisations within the UN system and NGOs either directly or through TANGO (The Association of Non-Governmental Organisations in the Gambia) in planning or implementing projects for poverty alleviation. Partnership with other civil society organisations and governmental institutions are very important for FIOH in order to enhance accountability, transparency and sustainability in our development work.
